Diamond Rogers Named State Farm Coaches' All-America Regional Finalist

March 20, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB women's basketball player Diamond Rogers has been named one of 52 regional finalists for the 2008 State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball Team, announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

The 52 finalists will be narrowed down to 40, from which the 10-member All-America Team will be selected from on April 5 at the NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four in Tampa, Fla.

"This is such a huge honor for Diamond to be regarded as one of the top 52 players in the nation," said UAB head coach Audra Smith. "She had an outstanding year and is definitely worthy of this recognition."

The senior from Jackson, Miss. led the Blazers in almost every category during this past season, including points, rebounds, assists and blocks. She averaged a league-high 16.7 ppg, while also adding 8.3 rpg, 3.2 apg and 16 blocks.

Rogers eclipsed the 1,000-point mark on Feb. 3 and finished her career with 1,121 points. She tallied 26 double figure scoring games and seven double-double while helping the Blazers to a third-place finish in Conference USA this past season.

This marks Rogers' second postseason honor of the year, having been named to the All-C-USA First Team as well. She was also tabbed as a preseason All-C-USA selection and the league's Player of the Week on Jan. 14.

Rogers is one of just two players from C-USA to be named on the prestigious list of finalists. She is joined by UTEP's Natasha Lacy.

This also marks the second consecutive season that UAB has had a player honored as one of the 52 finalists, with Carmen Guzman receiving the accolade a season ago.
