BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB head coach Mike Getman has been selected as the chair of the Midwest Regional Committee, announced by the NCAA. As the Midwest Regional Chair, Getman will be one of the 10-member team that makes up the 2008-09 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Committee.

"This is a great honor and I am thrilled to be a part of it," Getman said. "I am looking forward to representing UAB, our athletic department and the men's soccer program. It is a great privilege to be selected chair of our region and be involved in the selection process."

Getman will enter his 17th season at UAB and his 22nd season as a head coach. He enters the season with a career record of 226-136-32 overall and 184-110-23 (.619) with the Blazers. He currently ranks among the top 50 NCAA D-I active coaches in total wins (226) and winning percentage (.616) entering the 2008 campaign.

As part of his duties, Getman will be on the committee that selects teams for the NCAA Tournament and ensures that all games run smoothly.
